Can the BBB be successful in Improving health of PSU banks?

Image
Can the BBB be successful in Improving health of PSU banks? I have great respect for learned and capable person Sri Vinod Rai who was CAG head a few years ago and who unearthed many high value scams and helped the country in exposing the evil workd of the then ruling party. Now he is given the responsibility to head Bank Board Bureau (BBB) and suggest was to contain bad debts, get rid of capital shortage in PSU banks, how to merge and consolidate PSU banks and also suggest good names for the post of chief of PSU banks. Problems faced by Banks are now new . Burden of stressed assets is heavy . NPA is not creation of a few months or few years but it is even older than a decade in many cases. Banks were caught in inflating profit five to six years ago when it was detected that in order to inflate profits, banks did not make adequate provision even for terminal benefits like pension payable to bank staff on their retirement. Culture of manipulation and fabrication is deep ...

Another big one.. Two days back, ED arrested one Bhaskar Raman. What's so unique about this man who happens to be a chartered accountant!! In December 2015, during a raid ED found four Wills neatly kept in a locker. These wills were executed by four different persons, Bhaskar Raman, CBN Reddy, Ravi Viswanathan and Padma Viswanathan. All the wills were executed on same date i.e. 19th June 2013. The witness on all wills was one V Murali. Other witness in three of them was CBN Reddy and the balance one Ravi Viswanathan. Apart from above unique facts, there was something strange in all these will. They were divided in two parts. In one part the personal assets like property, jewellery, cash, bank account of executant was bequeathed to spouse and children as it happens normally. Interesting was second part in which the executants bequeathed their shareholding in two companies Advantage Strategic Consultant Pvt Ltd (Advantage) and Kriya FMCG to one girl Aditi daugher of Dr ...

Sectoral Analysis of Sugar Sector:- (January 2018)

Image
Sectoral Analysis of Sugar Sector:- Avoid Sugar Companies for sometime as we are facing over capacity and quite under utilization of capacity. India needs max 25 million tons sugar while it has current capacity of 40 million tons. Moreover, even the cost of sugar manufacturing is too high to make even the export of sugar as unsustainable. Hence, avoid sugar sector itself for sometime now. Pls note the following points:- 1. When the manufacturing cost price of sugar stands at much higher than the sugar prices world over, it hardly matters what's the export duty is and whether it has been reduced or not. Probably a export subsidy, if given, would have helped but it has not been provided. 2. Many factories are actually running at less than 50% of their capacities currently which effectively means less cash for paying the farmers from whom sugarcanes have been procured till now which is going to make things even more difficult. 3. Lack of enough water across tamilna...

*Hope the dust is settling down after the shocking news on introduction of Long Term Capital Gains Tax on Equity oriented investments in India* *Now think cooly and look around you and what’s the status in other developed and Emerging economies. Every country has varying rates of short/long term capital gains tax. This is nothing new in India. Only for the past few years this was exempted and is reintroduced to part fund Trillions of dollars of funds required to fund all round Infrastructure in the country. Now stop watching the high decibel debates on television channels and focus on your personal agenda of wealth creation. Look at the illustration with moderate projections of returns on investments in the new scenario and stay focused on your cherished objectives.* If you invest Rs.10,00,000/- at 15% p.a. Estimated Returns for a period 10 Years;  Your money will become Rs.40,45,558/-.  Even after paying long term capital gains tax of Rs.3,04,555.80; which is 10...

*The Pakodanomist's Budget and the Middle Class Bull*

*The Pakodanomist's Budget and the Middle Class Bull* Many BJP supporters are slamming the "Anti-middle-class Budget". Congress and Communists will anyway rubbish it. People keep harping about the "Salaried Class" getting nothing while the poor and the Corporates benefiting. I am middle class, I am salaried class and I see no wrong in what the budget wants to do. I am not an Economist but when everyone is acting like one, I believe I too can express what I believe. We are the "most selfish and most stupid" middle class in the world. We bargain with the old lady selling corn to save 5 to 10 rupees and pay 275 rupees for a packet of popcorn in the cinema hall without complaining. Often, they won't return that 5 rupees change and we ignore that. We harass our vegetable vendor and take free toppings of chillies or coriander leaves and then pay through our noses for the toppings on our Pizza in the upmarket restaurant. We want world class ...

Counter view on the Budget - Part 2..

I am not a very big fan of writing serious stuff related to debatable issues like Politics, Religion, Economy etc on Facebook as I believe that it is my personal space meant for sharing a few laughs and life updates with my friends and family. If at all, I ever talk about it, I always crack some joke related to it. On 1st February 2018, Finance Minister presented the General Budget in the Parliament and I, like any other salaried middle class was glued to the television just to listen to the point of my interest, that is, how much tax relief will be given to me this time. The announcement of tax rebate never came. Like all the salaried middle class, I got very angry and vowed not to vote for this government ever again. Slowly, but surely, my anger subsided and then I decided to look for any valid reason due to which they decided this. I had made up the mind to punish them in next elections if I could find that a grave Injustice had been done to me and hence, I did R&D on my o...

Counter view on the Budget by a Tax Payer

Lot of Debate all across on Budget. Despite being die Hard follower of BJP & esp Modiji, believe it was overall below average, vote oriented and with short sighted approach to protect vote bank at cost of common men. We don’t expect any reduction in slab or taxes but certainly cannot continue to support mis utilisation of honest tax payment of ours :  1. Why should with increase in custom duty, Cess and LTCG, another scheme of MPS/ Rural Development  be done which will just go to  few corrupt political lobby/administrators . This will help them to fool farmers that scheme is more for rural benefit, attract vote and like other Reform implementation in last two years , will be another fiasco.  2. Why aren’t they charging income tax on agriculturist who declare income of + 5 Lakhs. This will increase tax base and reduce deficit big way. But All of political lobby will be impacted and vote bank will be impacted.  3. Why can’t honest tax payer get ...
